A zeal for the defence of India can be witnessed in the 11th biennial edition of DefExpo India- 2020 organised in Uttar Pradesh capital Lucknow, between 5th February to 9th February, 2020. A massive level of arrangements took up for the execution of India’s biggest 5 days Defence Expo. Leaving no stone unturned in a bid, a huge level of participation from India’s Central government and State government was witnessed, showcasing the comprehensive spectrum of India’s aerospace, defence and security interests.
DefExpo 2020 began with the inauguration by PM Narendra Modi on 5th February in Uttar Pradesh’s Lucknow and was accompanied by Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Uttar Pradesh’s Governor Anandiben Patel and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
The goal of the expo is to present India’s capabilities for defence manufacturing in the country and promote its export potential for the defence of India to the world, ascertaining that India can no longer rely only on imports. Supporting and complementing the goal the theme was perfectly designed for the DefExpo India- 2020 as: ‘The Emerging Defence Manufacturing Hub’ and focus will be on 'Digital Transformation of Defence'.
An overview detailing section in 2020 Edition of Defence expo highlights that this is going to be by far the biggest expo which will be held on 200 acres of land where a huge number of companies registered for participating has reached 1,000. As per sources about 925 exhibitors have already booked spots, 150 of them are foreign exhibitors as many as 755 are Indian companies. Of the total Indian companies, 223 belong to Micro, Small and Medium Industries (MSME).
"Ministers from over 40 countries, delegates from 70 countries and 172 foreign military manufacturers are taking part in this edition of DefExpo, making it an important opportunity for all the countries to further strengthen Defence ties with India", the Defence Minister said.
The state is expecting that countries such as America, Russia, France, South Korea, Israel, Sweden and Britain will showcase their latest technologies in the defence sector during the event. The showpiece event brings advanced technologies pertaining to the defence sector under one roof.
The state government is also preparing a “tent city”, which is being developed at Vrindawan Development Scheme on the outskirts of Lucknow. The “tent city” is likely to have 1,000 super deluxe and deluxe tents for guests. The government is also preparing for different events on the banks of Gomti River.
The DefExpo also offers an opportunity to Indian firms to get engaged in Business-to-Business (B2B) interaction with senior foreign delegations. It also facilitates Government-to-Government (G2G) meetings and the signing of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs). Uttar Pradesh is also set to get Defence Industrial Corridors (DICs) of the country.
Overwhelmed with the support and response from national and international boundaries, the Defence minister stated, “This expo has shown that the new India is ready to march ahead, matching steps with the superpowers in this field. This is a clarion call that the future will be that of India. In the times to come, our country will emerge as a major centre of global defence manufacturing".
A mass level participation has been witnessed on the ground level as well, from corporate sector, commercial sector, defence sector, media sector alongwith a major manpower support has also been registered in the DefExpo 2020. The 11th edition of the Defence Expo has set a high standards of ground-level intelligence and insight. Ended on a huge success the biggest DefExpo is a breakthrough in the field of defence manufacturing, which has broken all the records of peoples participation, private and public participation and international cooperations.
